What Type of Support Can You Expect From a Virtual Assistant?

As virtual assistants, we often see clients expecting more services and support than a virtual assistant is trained to offer (or desires to offer). Virtual Assistants are incredible resources for your business, but we’re not a do everything, one-size-fits-all solution for your business. Read on to learn what type of support you CAN expect from a VA, and what you can’t.

Setting Realistic Expectations for Your Budget

If you are hiring a Virtual Assistant to support you in your business and that is what your budget allows for, it’s important to understand what type of support you can expect. Here’s the thing, you should NOT expect CMO-level support on a VA budget.

Virtual Assistants can absolutely assist you with a multitude of tasks, but we are not your Chief Marketing Officer or CFO.

One of the most difficult problems we face as VAs is clients often lose sight of the tasks we've been contracted for and expect us to complete tasks that are far beyond our agreement. We love to be a resource to bounce ideas off of, but we aren't the CEO. You are.

What Virtual Assistant Can and Can’t Support You With

Having a Virtual Assistant does NOT mean they are available for everything, all the time. Having strong boundaries and expectations in the working relationship is key.

Here’s a few examples of what a VA can and can’t support you with in your business.

Virtual Assistants can be:

  • A hand at administrative tasks.

  • Social media managers.

  • HR support.

  • Team members.

  • An ear to bounce ideas off of.

Virtual Assistants are not:

  • Marketing experts.

  • Chief financial officers.

  • Business advisors.

  • Mindset/spiritual coaches.

As a client, it’s time to set your expectations and budget accordingly and stop expecting full-time work at a part-time rate.
