3 Things That Don’t Equal Dollar Signs (And What Actually Does)

Numbers, in isolation, don't equate to success in business. A high count of followers doesn't magically translate to dollar signs, and a lengthy list of email addresses doesn't guarantee conversions. If you’re currently relying on vanity metrics as a sure sign of growth, it’s time for a reality check. Read on for our list of things you shouldn’t be banking your business growth on - and what actually matters when it comes to raking in more cash.

#1: Heaps of social media followers

I know it’s so freaking exciting to see that influx of IG notifications come through with new followers, but the cold hard truth is they aren’t going to make you money if you’re not doing the work to connect with them. You can have 60k Instagram followers and not make a single sale. A hundred loyal, engaged followers can drive more impact than a thousand fleeting ones.

How to actually make money from your followers

Putting out a post and gaining followers because it happened to go viral isn’t enough if you want to make those sales.

You need to build an engaged community where your followers feel valued and connected to you.

To create real connections on the socials, try:

  • Showing up on stories consistently

  • Responding to follower comments within 24 hours

  • Striking up convos in the DMs that aren’t just meant to sell

#2: Thousands of email subscribers

POV: You create an opt-in that skyrockets your email subscriptions, expecting to make bank. But just like your followers, subscribers aren’t a guarantee that you’re going to rake in more money. And while, yeah, a nurture sequence is a must-have for welcoming new subscribers to your list, email marketing isn’t always just a set-it-and-forget-it deal. #sadbuttrue

HOW TO ACTUALLY MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR SUBSCRIBERS

Our fav thing about email marketing is that your subscribers are on your list because they WANT to be. You should totally take that edge and use it to sell, sell, sell your services loudly and proudly.

Don’t be afraid to show TF up in their inbox regularly (like, at least weekly) with new promotions, offers, and things that are going to benefit them.

Hot tip: Spice up your email content for more sales. Make them feel like they’re reading a love letter from their BFF by infusing storytelling and glimpses of the real you. Connections = conversions.

#3: Flashy website branding

Okay, so aesthetics absolutely matter to your online brand.

BUT if you’re not doing the legwork for lead gen or networking, a beautifully branded website isn’t going to mean shit.

You need to focus on cultivating a community that resonates with your brand, believes in your mission, and is genuinely invested in what you have to offer first.

Then, you can worry about that flashy branding package for your website.

If you’re ready to see more dollar signs and elevate your business, then I’d love to be your business bestie and mentor to help you get there.
